THE OLD PUMP HOUSE IS RESTORED!

Restored exterior of the Old Pump House                                                         Brick-lined well still intact inside the Old Pump House

Thanks to the generosity of the Milledgeville Chapter Junior Board of the Watson-Brown Foundation and individual donations, the Foundation has restored the old pump house adjacent to the water tower behind the main house at Andalusia.  The WB Junior Board seeks historic preservation opportunities throughout Middle Georgia and awards $25,000 in grants annually to worthwhile preservation projects in the area.  Located adjacent to the restored water tower, the pump house was used when O’Connor lived at Andalusia.  Water was pumped by electricity from the pump house up into the water tower, which supplied water and provided water pressure for the farm complex.  The original well head is still in place inside the structure, which will be the center of a permanent exhibit beginning in the summer of 2008.

Thank you for helping us as we continue our efforts to preserve one of America's national treasures  --  Andalusia, the home of Flannery O'Connor.
