Readings and Book
Signings
The Foundation occasionally hosts
readings and book signings by writers of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction.
These programs are sometimes offered in conjunction with conferences and
other events sponsored by Georgia College & State University in
Milledgeville or other institutions. Similar programs are offered in
cooperation with other literary organizations associated with the
Southern
Literary Trail. The readings and book signings are usually held at
Andalusia or at venues in the area such as Georgia College, Georgia Military
College, or the public library. In most cases, these events are free
and open to the public. Writers hosted by the Foundation in recent
years include the following:
- Brad Gooch, author of
Flannery: A Life of Flannery O'Connor
- Pete Dexter, author of Paris Trout (National Book
Award winner)
- Mary Helen Stefaniak, author of The Cailiffs of Baghdad, Georgia
- Andrea Hollander Budy, poet and editor of When She Named
Fire: An Anthology of Contemporary Poetry by American Women
- Alice Friman, poet and author of The Book of the Rotten
Daughter
- Evelyn White, author of Alice Walker: A Life
- Rosemary Magee, editor of Conversations with Flannery
O'Connor
- Man Martin, author of Days of the Endless Corvette
- Karin Slaughter, best-selling author of crime novels set in
Atlanta
- Michael Bishop, author of "The Road Leads Back"
- Larry Baker, author of A Good Man
- R. T. Smith, award-winning poet,
fiction writer, and editor
- Ann Napolitano, author of A Good Hard Look
From one of our Friends of Andalusia:
"For a writer like O’Connor, who assigned so much value to the concrete particulars of place, the physical reality of home is crucial to a full understanding of the writing. The Andalusia Foundation serves an indispensable function by preserving the O’Connor house and farm and sharing them with new generations of readers."
