The Peafowl Now Have
Names
Thanks to everyone who
participated in our "Name the Peafowl" contest, which ended with
the final votes coming in on April 4, Easter Sunday. One
hundred votes were cast, with twenty different male names
submitted for the peacock and twenty-two different female names
submitted for the peahens. After all the votes were counted,
the winning name by two votes for the peacock is Manley Pointer.
The clear winner for the first peahen's name is Joy Hulga.
In fact, that name was the winner regardless of the combination of
the way the name was submitted: Joy or Hulga or Joy Hulga!
We think such a regal bird deserves a double name. The
female name with the second highest number of votes is Mary
Grace, passing Sabbath Lily by one vote. Obviously, Mr.
Pointer will always be easy to identify in the aviary; however, we
cannot tell the peahens apart. Feel free to ask them
yourself the next time you're here at Andalusia.
